The cross between a Dun Dark Brown stallion, whose coat the Dun gene acts on the base color, adding the characteristic dark dorsal stripe. In some cases it lightens the body tone and may also produce zebra-like leg markings. Dark brown coat, often nearly black, with black points, expressed over the bay base., and a Perlino mare with coat cream coat with slightly reddish tones in the mane and tail, caused by double dilution of the cream gene over the bay base., can produce 6 different coat colors: Dun Buckskin (39%), Buckskin (39%), Dun Palomino (7%), Palomino (7%), Dun Smoky Black (4%) and Smoky Black (4%).
