The cross between a Dun Dark Brown stallion, whose coat the Dun gene acts on the base color, adding the characteristic dark dorsal stripe. In some cases it lightens the body tone and may also produce zebra-like leg markings. Dark brown coat, often nearly black, with black points, expressed over the bay base., and a Chestnut mare with coat base coat with a reddish body, mane and tail, with no black pigment., can produce 8 different coat colors: Dun Bay (25%), Bay (25%), Dun Chestnut (18%), Chestnut (18%), Grullo (4%), Black (4%), Dun Dark Brown (3%) and Dark Brown (3%).
