The cross between a Roan Dark Brown stallion, whose coat the (Rn) gene acts on the base coat by distributing white hairs throughout the body, giving it a roan appearance. The head and legs retain the original base color tones. Dark brown coat, often nearly black, with black points, expressed over the bay base., and a Chestnut mare with coat base coat with a reddish body, mane and tail, with no black pigment., can produce 8 different coat colors: Roan Bay (25%), Bay (25%), Roan Chestnut (18%), Chestnut (18%), Roan Black (4%), Black (4%), Roan Dark Brown (3%) and Dark Brown (3%).
