The cross between a Gray Black stallion, whose coat the (G) gene acts on the base coat promoting progressive lightening throughout the horse's life until reaching very pale or completely white tones. Entirely black coat, with no dilutions and no Agouti gene action restricting black pigment to the points., and a Dark Brown mare with coat dark brown coat, often nearly black, with black points, expressed over the bay base., can produce 8 different coat colors: Gray Bay (27%), Bay (27%), Gray Black (14%), Black (14%), Gray Chestnut (6%), Chestnut (6%), Gray Dark Brown (3%) and Dark Brown (3%).
