The cross between a Chestnut stallion, whose coat base coat with a reddish body, mane and tail, with no black pigment., and a Roan Black mare with coat the (Rn) gene acts on the base coat by distributing white hairs throughout the body, giving it a roan appearance. The head and legs retain the original base color tones. Entirely black coat, with no dilutions and no Agouti gene action restricting black pigment to the points., can produce 8 different coat colors: Roan Bay (18%), Bay (18%), Roan Chestnut (18%), Chestnut (18%), Roan Black (13%), Black (13%), Roan Dark Brown (2%) and Dark Brown (2%).
